Heritage Open Days 2026

Each September thousands of volunteers across the country invite you to experience local history, architecture and culture. All for free. Heritage Open Days returns Fri 11 – Sun 20 September 2026.

Built in 1756 the Chapel is home to a thriving congregation of local Unitarians. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the splendid interior of this unique building and to learn more about its architecture and history. Although primarily a place of worship, it is also well known as a venue for concerts and other musical events.

PERFORMANCE
Friday 18th September – Sonic Illuminations 20:30 – 21:30.
Violinist Hannah Perowne and Live Visual Artist Marian Saunders bring music and light to life in an immersive, site-specific performance at the Octagon chapel. As part of Heritage Open Days, this performance will celebrate the unique architecture filling the space, including the domed roof, with colour, shape, movement and light. The music will be drawn from Hannah’s extensive classical repertoire for solo violin. Hannah and Marian interpret the music and imagery entirely at the moment of performance in an ever-changing audio-visual dialogue with both the artists and the audience evolving in harmony.
This event is free to attend, with donations to the artists time & costs very welcome.
